FROM A MODEL CAR TO THE BAJA 1000 (2000 MILES)
Share
It started with a radio control car at 14 years old. On the body shell was one word: Baja.
That single detail became the start of a 40-year obsession with desert racing. Now, four decades later, Pat Masters is preparing for one of the most demanding endurance events in motorsport - the NORRA Baja 1000 (2000 edition). A British-built off-road programme. A desert race across continents. And a goal that stays simple:
Start. Compete. Finish.
Race Rally Supplies is supporting the project as it develops from UK preparation through to USA competition.
BUILT THROUGH EXPERIENCE
Pat’s approach to motorsport has always been hands-on. He doesn’t just drive - he builds, repairs, develops and understands the machinery he competes in.

Since entering full-size off-road competition in 1995, he has built decades of experience across:
- UK off-road racing
- European rally raid events
- Moroccan desert competition environments
- USA-based Baja support and crew roles
That combination of driving and mechanical understanding is what shapes this programme. Because in desert racing, finishing is never accidental.
WHAT MAKES BAJA DIFFERENT
The NORRA Baja 1000 (2000 edition) is one of the most demanding off-road endurance events in the world. Unlike traditional racing formats, this edition covers approximately 2000 miles, running:
- From Ensenada
- To Cabo
- And back again
A full return route across the Baja Peninsula.

That creates a completely different challenge:
- Extended fatigue
- Changing terrain
- Mechanical stress over long duration
- No predictable rhythm
It is not just a race. It is sustained survival at speed.
THE BUILD
At the centre of the project is a British-built off-road vehicle developed for endurance competition. It has already completed:
- UK development mileage
- 800 miles of Moroccan desert testing
- Ongoing refinement based on real-world feedback
The focus now is final modifications and preparation ahead of USA shipment and race entry.

RACE RALLY SUPPLIES INVOLVEMENT
Race Rally Supplies is supporting the programme with equipment designed for real-world endurance use.
RRS sublimated race suits currently in development, designed for:
- Long-duration stages
- High-temperature desert environments
- Practical usability in-car over extended periods
Bell open-face rally helmets selected for:
- Endurance comfort
- Ventilation in desert heat
- Long-stage usability
Final specification to be confirmed.
Zero Noise intercom systems selected for:
- Clear communication in high-noise environments
- Reliability under sustained vibration and heat
- Endurance stage usability
MORE THAN A RACE
This is not a short-term project. It is a structured programme built around preparation, reliability, and experience under pressure. For Race Rally Supplies, it is also a real-world environment to ensure our equipment performs where it matters most.
