PD Extinguisher Servicing & Revalidation

Race Rally Supplies is an officially authorised and trained service engineer agent for PD extinguishers. We service PD fire extinguishers used in rally, race and competition vehicles, keeping your system compliant with FIA and Motorsport UK regulations and ready for competition.

Servicing is needed every 2 years. Turnaround at our workshop is usually 2-3 days, and 7-10 days in total including delivery both ways. Extinguishers over 16 years old can't be serviced and must be replaced.

How to book your service

1. Place your order. Choose your extinguisher type from the System menu above and add it to your basket. At checkout you'll be charged shipping, which covers us sending the unit back to you.
2. Email us. Send your order number and delivery address to sales@racerallysupplies.co.uk.
3. Get your returns details. We'll reply with our return address and a returns number.
4. Prepare your extinguisher. See "How do I prepare my extinguisher for posting?" below.
5. Post it to us. Write the returns number clearly on the parcel.

How do I prepare my extinguisher for posting?

Mechanical systems: Before sending, safely discharge the system outdoors in a clear area, away from children, pets and other people.

Electrical systems: Do not electrically discharge the system. Send it to us fully charged. Discharging it electrically damages the actuator and increases the cost of the service, which is why a higher price applies to discharged electrical systems.

Discharged cylinders: Label the parcel "Empty Unpressurised Fire Cylinder".

How often should my extinguisher be serviced?

 Motorsport UK requires extinguishers to be serviced in accordance with the manufacturer's guidelines or every 24 months, whichever is sooner (Motorsport UK Yearbook, Section K

Why does my motorsport extinguisher need servicing every 2 years?

Unlike office or household extinguishers, motorsport systems are exposed to extreme temperature changes and vibration, and are often stored in unheated garages or used in freezing conditions.

To work safely in low temperatures, AFFF extinguishers contain an anti-freeze agent. Over time this can crystallise, which can affect performance and reliability. That is why the regulations require servicing every two years.

My extinguisher expiry says June. Does it expire at the beginning or end of the month?

Your extinguisher remains valid until the end of the stated month.

Are there age limits?

Yes. Extinguishers over 16 years old can't be serviced and will need replacing. Browse our extinguisher systems.

How long will it take to service my extinguisher?

It depends on the time of year, but we can usually turn a cylinder around in 2-3 days. Delivery back to you takes a further 2-3 days, so please allow 7-10 days in total.
