PD Extinguisher Servicing & Revalidation

Race Rally Supplies is an officially authorised and trained service engineer agent for PD extinguishers, offering professional extinguisher servicing to keep your motorsport fire safety system compliant, reliable and ready for competition.

Regular servicing is essential to ensure your extinguisher system remains fully operational and compliant with FIA and Motorsport UK regulations. We provide fast, dependable servicing for PD fire extinguishers used in rally, race and competition vehicles.

How do I book a service?

Email sales@racerallysupplies.co.uk to request a service number and return address details before sending your extinguisher.

How often should my extinguisher be serviced?

Motorsport extinguishers must be serviced every 2 years in accordance with FIA and Motorsport UK regulations.

Are there age limits?

Yes. Extinguishers over 16 years old cannot be serviced and will require replacement.

How do I send my extinguisher to you?

Mechanical systems:
The extinguishing medium used in PD extinguishers is environmentally safe. Before sending, safely discharge the system outdoors in a clear area away from children, pets and other people.

Electrical systems:
Do not electrically discharge the system before shipping, as this will damage the actuator and increase the cost of the service. Electrical systems should be returned fully charged.

Please clearly label the parcel:
“Empty Unpressurised Fire Cylinder” (for discharged systems only).

Why does my motorsport extinguisher need servicing every 2 years?

This is a common question. Unlike office or household extinguishers, motorsport systems are installed in vehicles exposed to extreme temperature changes, vibration and harsh environments — often stored in unheated garages or competing in freezing conditions.

To operate safely in low temperatures, AFFF extinguishers contain an anti-freeze agent. Over time, this can crystallise, potentially affecting system performance and reliability. This is why FIA and Motorsport UK regulations require servicing every two years.

My extinguisher expiry says June. Does it expire at the beginning or end of the month?

Your extinguisher remains valid until the end of the stated month.

With Race Rally Supplies, your PD extinguisher is professionally serviced, compliant and ready for competition.

How long will it take to service my extinguisher?

This depends upon the time of year that we receive the cylinder but usually we can turn them around in 2-3 days. Delivery back to you is a 2-3 day service so please allow 7-10 days in total.

Stainless steel is heavier than mild steel, so how are PD systems lighter?

This is a common question. While stainless steel is typically heavier than mild steel, the design and strength of PD stainless steel cylinders allow them to be manufactured more efficiently, reducing overall system weight.

In many cases, PD systems can be up to 4kg lighter than equivalent mild steel systems. Because of the strength of the stainless steel cylinder design, there is no requirement for the heavy internal bladder commonly used in mild steel systems, helping reduce both weight and complexity.

This makes PD systems particularly attractive for motorsport applications where reducing vehicle weight is important.

Why is PD extinguisher servicing cheaper than some other brands?

There are a couple of reasons for this. The main factor is the stainless steel cylinder design, which removes the need for the internal bladder commonly found in mild steel cylinders.

Without the bladder, servicing requires fewer replacement materials and less labour time, helping reduce overall servicing costs while still maintaining FIA and Motorsport UK compliance.

The result is a professional, compliant servicing process that can often be completed at a lower cost than comparable systems.
