Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Haylo 4Kg fire suppression system?
It is an FIA approved motorsport fire extinguisher system using Novec 1230 clean agent technology.
What is Novec 1230?
Novec 1230 is a clean fire suppression agent that extinguishes fires without leaving residue, ideal for motorsport use.
Is this FIA approved?
Yes. It is FIA approved to EX.057-19.
What is the difference between mechanical and electrical systems?
Mechanical systems use a manual pull cable, while electrical systems use an electronic activation switch.
What is the service life?
The system has a 16-year life cycle, reducing long-term replacement costs.
My extinguisher expiry says June. Does it expire at the beginning or end of the month?
Your extinguisher remains valid until the end of the stated month.
With Race Rally Supplies, your PD extinguisher is professionally serviced, compliant and ready for competition.
Stainless steel is heavier than mild steel, so how are PD systems lighter?
This is a common question. While stainless steel is typically heavier than mild steel, the design and strength of PD stainless steel cylinders allow them to be manufactured more efficiently, reducing overall system weight.
In many cases, PD systems can be up to 4kg lighter than equivalent mild steel systems. Because of the strength of the stainless steel cylinder design, there is no requirement for the heavy internal bladder commonly used in mild steel systems, helping reduce both weight and complexity.
This makes PD systems particularly attractive for motorsport applications where reducing vehicle weight is important.
Why is PD extinguisher servicing cheaper than some other brands?
There are a couple of reasons for this. The main factor is the stainless steel cylinder design, which removes the need for the internal bladder commonly found in mild steel cylinders.
Without the bladder, servicing requires fewer replacement materials and less labour time, helping reduce overall servicing costs while still maintaining FIA and Motorsport UK compliance.
The result is a professional, compliant servicing process that can often be completed at a lower cost than comparable systems.
Can I buy spares for these systems?
Yes. We have a full range of spares HERE.
Do you have extra nozzles available?
Yes we do, you can find a full range of nozzles HERE.
What is the advantage of the 16-year life cycle?
It reduces long-term replacement frequency and lowers overall cost of ownership.
Is it suitable for rally cars?
Yes. It is widely used in rally, race and track day vehicles.
