The Pro Seat Classic is a premium FIA motorsport bucket seat designed for race, rally, road and track use, combining lightweight construction with enhanced driver comfort and safety support.

Built using a strong GRP shell, the Pro Seat Classic is engineered for performance-focused motorsport environments while maintaining a competitive weight and excellent structural rigidity. It features Motordrive’s Advanced Padding System (APS), delivering enhanced spinal, lumbar, shoulder and kidney support for improved driver stability during high-load cornering and stage conditions.

Available in Standard, Large and XL sizes, the seat is designed to accommodate a wide range of driver builds. The Large and XL options provide increased shoulder belt positioning and additional internal space for improved harness alignment and comfort over long stages or endurance events.

A choice of standard or low-profile base cushions allows further tuning of seating position, ensuring optimal control, pedal feel and visibility depending on vehicle setup.

Finished in a durable brushed fabric with suede-effect shoulder panels, the Pro Seat Classic is designed for long-term use in demanding motorsport environments. Signature grey Motordrive embroidery completes the professional appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Pro Seat Classic FIA approved?

Yes. It is FIA 8855-1999 homologated for motorsport use.

What is APS padding?

APS (Advanced Padding System) provides integrated spinal, lumbar, shoulder and kidney support for improved comfort and driver stability.

How tight do the mounting bolts need to be?

The manufacturer recommends that the mounting bolts are tightened to 80 lb/ft.

What is the difference between the Standard, Large and XL seats?

The Large seat is 40mm taller than the Standard seat, and the XL seat is a further 40mm taller than the Large.

This stepped increase in height ensures drivers with longer torsos can achieve the correct driving position and harness alignment. The shoulder belt openings are positioned higher in each size, allowing the harness to run cleanly through the centre of the shoulder slots, improving comfort, fit and safety under race and rally conditions.

What is a bolt-on head restraint?

A bolt-on head restraint gives you extra head protection when you need it, without permanently changing your car.

It’s ideal for road cars used on track days. You simply turn up at the circuit, fit it using two bolts, and you’re ready to go. When you’re done, you can remove it just as easily and return the car to normal road use.

It’s a simple way to add motorsport-level head protection for occasional track use.

What angle should harness straps pass through the seat slots for scrutineering?

For FIA and Motorsport UK scrutineering, shoulder harness straps should exit the seat horizontally from the driver’s shoulders, then run rearwards with a slight downward angle of approximately 0° to -20° towards the harness bar or rear mounting points.

The key compliance requirement is that the belts must never angle upwards behind the seat, as this can increase spinal loading in the event of an impact and is likely to fail scrutineering.

What are scrutineers checking for?

Scrutineers will typically check that:

  • Shoulder belts run straight from the shoulders without upward angle
  • Both straps are even, untwisted and symmetrically routed
  • Belts pass correctly through the seat harness slots without excessive friction or misalignment
  • Load direction is rearward and slightly downward toward the mounting point

What is the correct installation goal?

The correct setup ensures the harness:

  • Holds the driver down and back into the seat under load
  • Transfers force safely to the rear mounting structure, not the seat shell
  • Maintains consistent restraint geometry under crash loading

Simple rule of thumb

A correctly installed system should have:

Flat off the shoulders, then a gentle downward run to the rear mounts — never upward at any point.

Is it suitable for rallying?
